The No1 Lounge & Clubrooms at Heathrow Terminal 3 presented a very different lighting challenge to our previous airport lounge projects. With windows running around the perimeter of the space and views directly onto the Heathrow runways, the lighting design needed to respond sensitively to changing levels of natural daylight while creating a consistent and welcoming atmosphere. Our approach was carefully considered to balance functionality with a sense of luxury, ensuring the lighting complemented the architecture and interiors without competing with the views beyond.
One of the key features of the scheme is the false skylight, which is carefully programmed through the lighting control system to transition throughout the day. Cooler tones gradually develop into warmer hues, subtly mimicking the changing qualities of natural daylight from sunrise through to sunset. Elsewhere, lighting has been seamlessly integrated into key architectural and interior features, including the central tree within the Orangery and the suspended planter above the bar. The intention throughout was to make the lighting feel intrinsic to the design rather than an addition to it.

As a No1 Clubrooms destination, the space demanded an elevated level of luxury and attention to detail. We worked closely with No1 Lounges, Resident Architects and the wider design and construction teams to carefully select each decorative fitting and develop a lighting scheme that enhances the character and individuality of the space. From the architectural lighting to the carefully curated decorative pieces, every element has been considered to create an immersive and sophisticated environment, allowing passengers to fully experience the distinctive Clubrooms offering.
