Winner of The LIT Lighting Design Award 2025, Europe’s Leading Airport Lounge 2025 and World’s Leading Airport Lounge 2025 and Located within Heathrow Terminal 2, the No1 Lounge is a sophisticated passenger environment designed to offer comfort, relaxation and a sense of luxury away from the pace of the airport. With no access to natural daylight, the lighting design was central to creating an inviting and atmospheric space. Our approach carefully balances functional illumination with softer, more ambient lighting to create a comfortable environment for passengers throughout their stay.
A key element of the design is the intelligent lighting control system, which allows the lighting to evolve throughout the day. The lounge has no natural light so this was an important factor in the design process, meaning brighter levels during daytime hours which gradually transition into, more ambient atmospheric lighting in the evening, subtly reflecting the natural progression of daylight and creating a relaxed evening ambience. The lighting has been carefully integrated throughout the lounge to support passenger comfort while enhancing the architectural and interior design.

Ease of maintenance and operation was fundamental to the design, with careful consideration given to both passengers and staff. We worked closely with No1 Lounges, Resident Architects, wider design team and contractors throughout the project to coordinate and refine the lighting scheme. The result is a beautifully lit lounge that combines functionality, luxury and tranquillity, while delivering a robust and practical lighting solution for everyday operation.
